The Woman You Used to Be Would Be Proud of You

I wonder what the younger version of you would think if she met you today.

Not the version of you who notices the wrinkles first.

Or the one who wishes she had started sooner.

Or the one who quietly wonders if she’s done enough.

I mean the young woman who dreamed about the future.

The one who couldn’t wait to see who she’d become.

What would she see?

I don’t think she’d notice what you notice.

I don’t think she’d count the gray hairs.

Or the laugh lines.

Or whether you’ve gained a few pounds.

I think she’d be amazed.

She’d see someone who kept going.

Someone who figured things out, even when life didn’t come with instructions.

She’d see a woman who survived heartbreak.

Who celebrated victories.

Who picked herself up after disappointment.

Who loved deeply.

Who learned.

Who adapted.

Who kept becoming.

Life probably didn’t unfold exactly the way either of you imagined.

Maybe some dreams changed.

Maybe others disappeared altogether.

And maybe new dreams arrived that your younger self could never have imagined.

That’s how life works.

It’s not a straight line.

It’s a collection of chapters.

Some joyful.

Some painful.

Some that changed everything.

Yet here you are.

Still writing your story.

One of the things I’ve noticed is that we’re often much harder on ourselves than anyone else would ever be.

We compare ourselves to an old photograph.

To an old version of ourselves.

To a timeline that exists only in our minds.

We measure ourselves by what hasn’t happened yet instead of everything that already has.

But what if we looked at ourselves through younger eyes?

The young woman you used to be probably wasn’t wishing for perfect skin.

She was hoping she’d find happiness.

She wanted meaningful friendships.

She hoped she’d love and be loved.

She wanted to feel confident.

She wanted to make a difference.

She wanted to become someone she could be proud of.

And look at everything you’ve learned.

You’ve learned that strength doesn’t always look loud.

Sometimes it’s getting out of bed after a difficult season.

Sometimes it’s asking for help.

Sometimes it’s starting over.

Sometimes it’s choosing peace instead of proving a point.

Those lessons aren’t visible in a photograph.

But they’re written all over your life.

I think that’s one of the reasons I love jewelry.

Not because it changes who we are.

But because it can remind us of who we’ve become.

A favorite pair of earrings isn’t just an accessory.

It’s something that makes you stand a little taller.

A bracelet can remind you of your resilience.

A necklace can become a quiet celebration of this chapter of your life.

Not because you’re trying to become someone else.

Because you’re honoring the woman you’ve already become.

The same is true when we choose to keep learning.

Whether it’s learning new technology, starting a business, picking up a new hobby, or simply saying yes to something that feels a little scary…

Growth doesn’t stop because we’ve reached a certain age.

In many ways, it finally begins.

Every time you learn something new, you’re proving that your story is still unfolding.

That your best chapters aren’t necessarily behind you.

They’re simply different.

So the next time you find yourself wishing you looked younger…

Or wondering if you’re too late…

Or questioning whether you’ve done enough…

Pause.

Imagine sitting across from the young woman you used to be.

I don’t think she’d criticize you.

I don’t think she’d focus on the things you’ve been worrying about.

I think she’d be fascinated by your stories.

Inspired by your resilience.

Grateful for your wisdom.

And incredibly proud that you never stopped becoming.

If you’d like a little reminder to celebrate the woman you’ve become, I’d love to help you find a piece that feels like you.

The younger version of you dreamed about this life.

It may not look exactly as she imagined.

But I have a feeling she’d look at you today…

Smile…

And say,

“You did better than you think.”
