Remember when “over 40” used to sound old?
Turns out, it’s the exact opposite.
This season of life isn’t about slowing down—it’s about waking up.
In my 20s and 30s, life felt like a blur of responsibilities—raising kids, keeping a household running, building careers. So much of it was about getting through the day. But now? At 40 and beyond, we finally get to choose what makes us feel alive.
Here are 5 ways to bring that spark back into everyday life:
1. Say yes to something new.
It doesn’t have to be huge. Try a new recipe, explore a new trail, or finally sign up for the class you’ve been eyeing. New experiences remind us that we’re still growing.
2. Stop saving things for “special.”
Life is the special occasion. Burn the candle. Use the pretty dishes. Wear the sparkle—even on a random Tuesday. Don’t wait for permission to enjoy what you already love.
3. Move your body in ways that feel good.
Forget punishing workouts. Dance in the kitchen, walk with a friend, stretch before bed. Movement isn’t about perfection—it’s about energy and joy.
4. Curate your circle.
Your time and energy are precious. Surround yourself with people who make you laugh, lift you up, and remind you of your brilliance. Life’s too short for toxic energy.
5. Celebrate yourself—no permission slip required.
Buy the flowers. Toast your own wins. Take yourself out for coffee. Over 40, we don’t need a reason to celebrate who we are and the life we’re building.
Being alive after 40 is about choosing joy, creating moments, and leaning into confidence right where we are.
💖 And because October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I want to take this idea of choosing joy one step further. This month, I’m honoring breast cancer warriors who remind us every single day how precious life is, and how powerful it can be to live fully in the moment.
I’ve opened nominations for women to receive a sparkle gift—because every warrior deserves to feel seen, celebrated, and sparkly. If you know a warrior who shines, I’d love for you to nominate her here.
So tell me—what’s one thing you’ll do this week to feel more alive?
