I don’t know who needs to hear this, but sitting down for a few minutes isn’t laziness.
Neither is saying no.
Neither is taking a break.
Neither is asking for help.
Neither is choosing yourself.
Somewhere along the way, many of us began to believe that being busy was something to be proud of.
We learned to push through.
To stay productive.
To take care of everyone else before taking care of ourselves.
We wore exhaustion like a badge of honor.
We convinced ourselves that rest was something we had to earn.
We’ll rest when the work is done.
We’ll rest when the house is clean.
We’ll rest when the children no longer need us.
We’ll rest when the project is finished.
We’ll rest when we’ve accomplished enough.
The problem is that the list never ends.
There is always another load of laundry.
Another errand to run.
Another email to answer.
Another responsibility waiting for our attention.
And somewhere in the middle of all of it, we begin to disappear.
Not all at once.
Just a little at a time.
We stop doing the things that bring us joy.
We postpone the hobbies we love.
We tell ourselves we’ll get back to them later.
We become experts at showing up for everyone except ourselves.
I think many women know exactly what I’m talking about.
We’ve spent years taking care of children, partners, parents, friends, coworkers, clients, and communities.
We’ve become so good at carrying the weight of the world that we feel guilty when we finally put it down.
Even for a moment.
Especially for a moment.
But what if rest isn’t a reward?
What if it’s a necessity?
What if your worth has absolutely nothing to do with how productive you are?
That’s not always an easy lesson to learn.
We’re surrounded by messages telling us to do more, be more, achieve more, and produce more.
The world applauds busy people.
It rarely celebrates peaceful ones.
But peace matters.
Joy matters.
Quiet matters.
You matter.
I think that’s one of the reasons I love jewelry.
Not because it changes who we are.
Not because we need another reason to sparkle.
But because sometimes a small act of choosing something beautiful is a way of reminding ourselves that we deserve care, too.
Sometimes wearing the earrings isn’t about the earrings at all.
Sometimes it’s about the woman wearing them.
It’s about pausing long enough to remember that she matters.
I’ve discovered something similar in my work with technology.
So many women come to me feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, and exhausted because they’re trying to do everything themselves.
They believe asking for help means they’ve failed.
They believe slowing down means they’re falling behind.
But technology, when used well, can create something incredibly valuable.
Time.
Space.
Freedom.
And perhaps that’s what we’re all searching for.
Not perfection.
Not endless productivity.
Just enough room to breathe.
So maybe this is your gentle reminder.
Sit down.
Read the book.
Take the walk.
Drink the coffee while it’s still hot.
Turn off the notifications.
Wear the earrings.
Leave the dishes in the sink.
The world will keep spinning.
I promise.
Rest isn’t weakness.
Rest isn’t selfish.
Rest isn’t laziness.
And rest certainly isn’t something you have to earn.
You deserve it simply because you’re human.
