You’re Allowed to Change Your Mind

Somewhere along the way, many of us started believing that consistency meant staying exactly the same.

The same routines.

The same habits.

The same dreams.

The same version of ourselves.

Not because we loved that version of ourselves.

But because everyone else had become comfortable with her.

Then one day, something shifts.

Maybe it’s small.

You realize you don’t enjoy the things you once loved.

You discover new interests.

You want something different.

You begin to see yourself differently.

Or perhaps life changes you.

You become a mother.

You become an empty nester.

You change careers.

You move to a new place.

You lose someone you love.

You start over.

Suddenly, the person you’ve always been doesn’t feel quite the same anymore.

And instead of embracing the change, many of us do something curious.

We apologize for it.

We explain ourselves.

We ask for permission.

“I know this sounds strange, but…”

“I’ve been thinking about trying something new.”

“I know people expect me to…”

“I’m probably too old to…”

But what if you aren’t?

What if changing your mind isn’t a sign that you’re lost?

What if it’s a sign that you’re paying attention?

After all, the woman you were at twenty couldn’t possibly know everything the woman you are today has learned.

She didn’t have your experiences.

She hadn’t lived your life.

She hadn’t survived your difficult seasons.

She hadn’t learned what truly matters.

Why should she be responsible for deciding who you’re allowed to become?

Growth is a beautiful thing.

And growth requires movement.

Trees grow.

Gardens grow.

Relationships grow.

Dreams grow.

Why shouldn’t we?

Some of the most interesting people I know have reinvented themselves more than once.

They’ve started businesses.

Gone back to school.

Learned new skills.

Discovered new passions.

Moved across the country.

Changed their minds.

And every single experience became part of the person they were becoming.

I think that’s one of the reasons I love jewelry.

Stay with me for a moment.

A piece of jewelry doesn’t change who we are.

But it can become an expression of who we are.

Sometimes we choose delicate, simple pieces.

Sometimes we’re drawn to bold colors and sparkling gemstones.

Sometimes the things we loved ten years ago no longer feel like us.

And that’s perfectly all right.

The same is true of our lives.

Changing your style doesn’t mean you were wrong before.

Changing your goals doesn’t mean you failed.

Changing direction doesn’t mean you’ve lost your way.

It simply means you’ve grown.

I’ve noticed the same thing when it comes to technology and business.

So many women tell themselves they’re too old to learn something new.

Too late to start.

Too inexperienced.

Too overwhelmed.

But every time they learn something they once believed they couldn’t do, they discover something important.

They’re far more capable than they thought.

The truth is, we were never meant to stay exactly the same.

We were meant to learn.

To stretch.

To evolve.

To become.

So, if you’ve been feeling the pull toward something new, perhaps this is your reminder.

Take the class.

Wear the earrings.

Start the business.

Learn the technology.

Paint the room.

Book the trip.

Change your hairstyle.

Dream a new dream.

You don’t need anyone’s permission.

You don’t need to justify your growth.

You don’t need to apologize for changing.

Because the woman you’ve become has earned the right to decide who she wants to be next.

If you’d like a little everyday sparkle as you step into your next chapter, I’d love to help you find something that reflects the woman you are today.

You are allowed to keep becoming.
